Architecture is approaching an unprecedented juncture as the complexities
of contemporary culture become increasingly saturated with digital technology.
Stephen Perrella
Buildings are changing, they are becoming smart, virtual and made of pixels
along with bricks and mortar. These days we can visit libraries and shops
from a distance, travel around them from the air, and watch kids build
new ones in computer games.
The V01D exhibition
at the Plymouth Arts Centre revealed some of these new ideas that are
transforming our understanding of buildings as new digital technologies
extend what architecture does when it meets computers.
V01D provided the public and designers a chance to see unusual and cutting
edge forms of digital architectures. From virtual reality systems, 3D
fly-throughs across extraordinary landscapes, and what happens when you
let children play with VR technology, the show excited and interested
a wide variety of people.
The book V01D that
accompanies the show is available.
This exhibition coincided with the Royal Institute of British Architects
Architecture week in June, which hosts many events that encourage people
to get involved in and learn more about architecture and the built environment
in which they live and work.
