Routines
Routines was a series of GPS tracks from people who worked in and around Plymouth. The tracks were recorded and played back in realtime in the Plymouth Arts Centre during the S-OS show.

No one really knows Plymouth. And you can bet that if you asked every one of the 240,000 residents to draw a map of the city each one would be different. Each one of us gets to know Plymouth from our particular house and we construct mental maps of the city according to the routes that we take to familiar places such as work, the shops that we like and the people that we like to visit. These routes in turn become routines and form patterns of how we understand the city. With this in mind we wanted to document just a few of the routes that people take in a day, and photograph the exchanges that affect the way that they think about Plymouth. The GPS tracks were recorded over a day and are replayed in real-time. The photographs are of conversations or exchanges with other people that occurred at times through out the day. You can't interact with this work, but you may like to consider how your idea of Plymouth has become routine, and how you might like to break it and discover new routes.
